ANSWERS TO OUR MOST FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Answers to our mostly commonly asked questions

  • Does this data include every case that has been heard in Denver?
This website includes over 50,000 cases that were before the Denver Courts. Though this allows us to provide statistical information, it does not include every case that has come before the courts.

  • How many cases are analyzed in a search result?
The maximum number of cases that will be included in any result is 1,500 cases.

  • Where was this information compiled from?
The information was compiled from the Denver County Courts. We are not affiliated with the Denver County Courts or any governmental entity.

  • I am an attorney that won a case but my name is not appearing in the search results. What can I do?
Because we only include a sample of the cases (a maximum of 1,500 per search) rather than all of the cases, your case may not have been pulled in the specific search that was conducted. To ensure that the case is included in our database, please contact us with the case number and we will make sure that your case is among all of the cases in the database. The criteria for being included in the attorney list includes handling a minimum of 3 cases in Denver for the crime charged with at least one of the cases resulting in dismissal of all the charges or a win at trial. If you would like your case included in the search results, please send us your name and case number. We will be happy to make sure the case is in the database.

  • How can I find out the charges that I am facing?
Please call the court or your attorney to find specific information about your charges. We do not provide this information because we want to protect your privacy and only provide historical information.

  • Are you affiliated with the State of Colorado or the City of Denver?
No. We are not affiliated with any governmental entity.

  • I am a lawyer, how can I advertise on your site?
Unfortunately, we do not offer advertising at this time.

  • Why does this site exist?
Our purpose is to provide statistical information regarding previous criminal cases. Ultimately, we hope to add transparency to the court process so that people can better understand the court system.

  • Why do I have to pay for certain results and to view the list of attorneys?
Currently, we do not charge for our services. In the future, we may require payment to cover our costs. If we do add a price feature in the future, it will only be to view lists of attorneys and their results when handling cases where a specific charge has been selected. We would charge for this information because it is tailored toward people who are in the market to hire a private attorney and would only be relevant for that purpose.

  • What is the best way to use the filters?
If you are interested in information regarding a specific set of charges, please select the charges that you are interested in, using the "include filter". Then submit the form. At this point, all of the results will be from cases that include the charges you are interested in, but they will also include some charges that you may not be interested in. To exclude those cases, use the filter a second time, selecting all of the cases that you do not want from the "exclude filter". After you submit this second filter, your results will only include information regarding the specific set of charges that you are interested in.
Alternatively, if you are using one of the paid versions, simply scroll to the last section of the page and select the group of charges that you are interested in.
Keep in mind that filters reduce the number of cases that are being considered in the analysis. This reduction may create uncertainty in the statistical results so it is best to use the least amount of filters necessary to achieve your goals.

  • What can I do if the average penalties for a crime seem inappropriate?
If the application of the law does not conform with your ideas regarding the charge, you may want to contact your elected officials to attempt to enact better legislation regarding the charge or the sentencing scheme for the charge.
